🚗 ISLE OF SKYE TOURIST BOARD — NEW PASSING PLACE SPONSORSHIP SCHEME
Following a successful pilot project, we’re pleased to announce that businesses and individuals will soon be able to sponsor a passing place on Skye. With hundreds of passing places across the island, the scheme will provide much-needed funding for maintenance while allowing sponsors to become part of Skye’s road network. For only £295 per year, your chosen passing place will carry a small plaque bearing your name. Premium locations overlooking the Cuillins, Storr and Neist Point Lighthouse will cost slightly more. Passing places already occupied by campervans will be sold with sitting tenants. Several have apparently been there since May. Local businessman Calum MacLeod has already reserved one near Staffin. “It seemed a good investment.” “I've spent enough time sitting in it.” Corporate sponsorship is also being considered. Officials have confirmed discussions are underway regarding: The CalMac Passing Place: *Available when operational.* The VisitScotland Passing Place *Please book ahead.* And of course: The Highland Council Passing Place *Currently closed for consultation.* One proposal to name a passing place after a prominent local crofter has already been withdrawn. Donald MacKinnon, 79, said: “I've already got one.” “It's outside my gate.” Visitors are reminded that sponsorship does NOT entitle you to park in your passing place. It is still a passing place. This remains an surprisingly difficult concept. Applications open shortly. - ISLE OF SKYE TOURIST BOARD "Supporting local infrastructure - One wee blue sign at a time."
