🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 ISLE OF SKYE TOURIST BOARD — IMPORTANT VISITOR UPDATE

Following another very busy visitor season, we’re pleased to announce the introduction of a new Skye Border Control facility at the Skye Bridge. From next spring, all visitors will be asked three simple questions before being permitted onto the island: 1. Do you have suitable waterproof clothing? If no, you may proceed. You’ll understand soon enough. 2. Do you understand how passing places work? If yes, welcome to Skye. If no, there will be a short training course. If you answer “Yes, they're handy places to park and take photographs”, your vehicle will be turned around immediately. 3. When another driver pulls over to let you past, what do you do? Acceptable answers include: “The wee wave.” “Lift a finger off the steering wheel.” “The nod.” Anything more enthusiastic will identify you as being from somewhere else, but entry will still be permitted. Visitors arriving in motorhomes will undergo one additional assessment: There are 17 vehicles behind you. What do you do? This is not a trick question. Border officials will also carry out random waterproof-jacket inspections. Anyone arriving with an umbrella will be taken aside for a quiet word. Passports are not required. Visas are not required. Proof that you've booked a table in Portree before 7pm would be advantageous. Local Border Officer Murdo MacLeod has welcomed the new arrangements. Asked how strict enforcement would be, he said: “Ach, we'll see” Visitors who fail the assessment will not be deported. That would be unnecessarily harsh. They will simply be returned to Kyle of Lochalsh and given some time to think about what they've done. - ISLE OF SKYE TOURIST BOARD "Welcome to Skye - Passport optional. The wee wave isn't."
