🦟 ISLE OF SKYE MIDGE CONSERVATION PROGRAMME
The Isle of Skye Tourist Board is pleased to announce a major new conservation project aimed at protecting one of the island’s most recognisable native species. The Highland Midge. Following an unusually pleasant 17 minutes in August, concerns were raised that midge numbers may have fallen below traditional Skye levels. Immediate action was taken. We’re delighted to confirm that an additional 14 million midges have now been released at popular locations across the island. Each one has been individually briefed. Priority areas include: • Car parks immediately after you get out of the car • Anywhere you've decided to have a picnic • Campsites at approximately 4:47am • The exact square metre where there is no wind • Inside your jacket, despite it being zipped up Visitors are reminded not to feed the midges. They will make their own arrangements. The programme will be closely monitored throughout the season, although early indications suggest several visitors have already donated blood. - Isle of Skye Tourist Board "Protecting our natural heritage. ...One ankle at a time."
