🧚‍♀️ ISLE OF SKYE — FAIRY POOLS UPGRADE

Following extensive visitor feedback, we’re delighted to announce plans to heat the Fairy Pools. For years, visitors have travelled from around the world to experience their crystal-clear waters, spectacular surroundings and the sudden disappearance of all feeling below the waist. We listened. Under the proposed “Fairy Pools Thermal Improvement Scheme”, the water will be maintained at a comfortable 28°C throughout the year. The project is expected to transform the pools into one of Scotland’s leading outdoor spa destinations. Local crofter - Iain “Boiler” MacDonald, who has been advising on the project, remains confident. “Aye, it’s perfectly doable.” “We just need a longer extension lead.” Plans currently include underwater heating, changing facilities and a small button allowing visitors to request bubbles. There have been some concerns about the environmental impact. Project consultant - Donnie MacLeod of Glenbrittle has dismissed these. “The water comes down the hill cold.” “We heat it.” “Then it goes into the sea and gets cold again.” “Nature sorts itself out.” Local resident Angus MacKinnon, 81, was asked whether he welcomed the plans. “No.” Asked whether he would like to elaborate, Mr MacKinnon said: “No.” Work is expected to begin as soon as engineers establish where the nearest plug socket is, but are currently led to believe there is a house with a spare socket in the kitchen less than 3 miles away. Until then, visitors are welcome to enjoy the Fairy Pools at their traditional temperature of Christ Almighty. - Isle of Skye Tourist Board "Thousands of years without central heating. Apparently that’s an issue now."
